Chiang Mai region, Thailand - Took the bus north of Chiang Mai for about one hour to the Maetaman Elephant Camp. This privately-owned camp is in a forested area next to a river.While there are numerous activities to do at the camp, we walked through the camp to get a closer look at the elephants, watched as the elephants bathed in the river and even got the chance to see a newborn calf just a mere 20 minutes after it was born! (watch for an upcoming post on that).

The daily elephant show demonstrates the relationship and communication between the mahout (elephant handler) and his elephant.
