Oops, missed this post earlier while still in the Chiang Rai region of northern Thailand before visiting Mae Sai and the Golden Triangle region.
The day started out with a boat ride along the Mae Kok River from Chiang Rai, followed by a 1.5 hour elephant ride through the gorgeous Thai countryside, through rice fields and jungle to Ban Jalae Akha and Lahu village and later, visiting a waterfall in a nearby national park. After a long ride atop the elephants, a visit to Ban Jalae - a village approximately 20 kms. northwest of Chiang Rai. Visiting the homes of some of the villagers and getting a close-up look at daily life was a fantastic opportunity.Following the visit to the village, a fifteen minute hike from Ban Jalae up to see Huay Mae Sai waterfall. An opportunity to cool off before heading back to Chiang Rai for the night.
